The Quito Project 2008 Summary

With the help of community partners, we provided critical assistance to the residents of San Martín and Chillogallo:

 

  • We saw 2,050 patients in our free walk-in clinic, and input each patient in our Electronic Medical Records System
  • We distributed over $10,000 worth of medications, including anti-parasitics, antibiotics, anti-fungals, and more
  • We tutored over 80 children in math and reading for four months and took them on educational field trips
  • We distributed over 100 pairs of glasses in our clinic
  • We distributed hundreds of toothbrushes, toothpaste, and soap in our clinic
  • We supplied every woman over 60 with a six month supply of calcium supplements, and every adult and child with vitamins 
  • We established meaningful partnerships with medical schools in the area and the ministry of health to improve services.
  • We ran workshops on nutrition, family planning, mental health, yoga and meditation, among many other topics.
  • We created a Health Resource Guide to distribute to the community with information about how to get care when we are not there
  • We conducted a community wide needs assessment with a door to door survey and will use the results to direct the project's future
  • We ran the first winter and spring clinics which each saw over 400 patients.
  • We provided dental services to 492 patients in our dental clinic
  • We began construction on a permanent space
