Initiatives
TQP aims to create an inexpensive, replicable model for delivering preventative health, social, and education services to poor communities in Ecuador. Currently, all acute and urgent medical care is provided by the Ecuadorian Ministry of Health, funded entirely by the government. Preventative health, social, and education services, however, are not included in the government programs. The Ecuadorian Ministry of Health has allowed one government health clinic to work with TQP to develop a replicable model for comprehensive services. This local health clinic, called the Subcentro de Salud San Martin (SCSSM), will provide urgent and acute medical care to its patient population of 89,000. TQP, working in the SCSSM complex, will provide preventative health, social, and educational services to the SCSSM patients, free of charge.
Within the next 1-2 years, TQP and SCSSM hope to polish this new comprehensive model and begin studying outcomes of patients receiving acute care at the government clinic coupled with TQP's preventative health, social, and education services versus patients receiving the government acute care alone. If measurable results can be demonstrated, the Ministry of Health is interested in allocating more government money to preventative, social, and educational services to other local government health clinics, to staff and sustain programs similar to those run by TQP.
TQP believes the most effective, long-term solution to improving the quality of life in San Martín is access to health, social, and educational services. We believe our programs, including preventative health workshops, chronic disease counseling, social worker outreach programs, and a summer school will have a profound impact on how the SCSSM is able to serve their patients and improve their quality of life
